"Learning the language of the other community would definitely foster inter communal harmony, co-existence and communal amity. Hence, one should give importance to his or her curricular activities in learning languages of the other community. Sinhalese should learn Tamil and Tamil speaking Muslims and Tamils should acquire sufficient knowledge in Sinhala. I am happy today the Staff Development Centre of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka fulfills this requirement and I wish that this venture should be continued.

Said the Vice Chancellor of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka Prof .MMM Najim at a ceremony organized by the Staff Development Centre and Co-Existence Society of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka chaired by the Director of SDC Dr. MIM. Jazeel.

Participating as chief guest at an event for Language Performance and Proficiency Prof. Najim said that hitherto, the Tamil speaking Staff and Sinhala speaking staff had been facing problems in conversing and executing their Official matters due to language barriers and now that this language proficiency program paved the way for a better environment and fostering a friendly atmosphere among the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities.This program should be further streamlined. I congratulate the good work of the Staff of the Staff Development Centre.

Director Dr. MIM. Jazeel in his address thanked the Vice Chancellor for extending his whole hearted support to make this scheme meaningful and a great success. He also added that he along with the resource Personnel and his Staff have been making all necessary arrangements to streamline this scheme further and request the University Staff to join hand with us to develop their language skills.

The Sinhala and Tamil speaking Academic and Non Academic Staff of the University who were engaged in Sinhala and Tamil classes conducted by the Staff Development Centre with the efficient Sinhala and Resource Personnel performed the programmes. Sinhala speaking Staff performed their programs in Tamil and Tamil speaking Staff conducted their programs in Sinhala. Accordingly Speeches, dialogues, dramas, and songs, poems in Sinhala and Taml and interesting cultural events were conducted by them.

Registrar H.Abdul Saththar also spoke at this ceremony which was also attended by Dean FIA Dr. SMM Mazahir and several others also spoke.

A team of efficient Resource Personnel consisting of Dr. AFM Ashraff, SH.Satheeka, IM. Abul Hassen, and M. Arifeen who conducted the lectures in the classes were also present at this ceremony.

At the conclusion of the program the Officers who performed well in the ceremony were given certificate of merit.Special appreciagtion certificates were also issued to Resource Persponnel by the Chief Guest.
