On October 24, 2023, the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) celebrated its 27th founding anniversary with great pomp and grandeur at the university's main auditorium.

As part of the Founder’s Day festivities, a tree-planting ceremony took place at the main campus. This event was organized by the Teachers’ Association of South Eastern University (TASEU) and was overseen by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Rameez. The President of TASUE, Prof. AMM. Mustapha, along with other academic, administrative, and non-academic staff, actively participated in the tree planting ceremony.

Following the tree planting, the central celebration of the anniversary unfolded at the university's main auditorium. The gathering was graced by the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Rameez, Dr. Faiz Mustapha, PC, who serves as the Chancellor of the South Eastern University, and Mr. Aman Ashraff, the son of the university's founder the late Dr. MHM. Ashraff.

During the event, notable honors were bestowed, including the Vice-Chancellor's Award, recognizing individuals with over 25 years of service to the university, as well as commemorative plaques for the inaugural cohort of students who embarked on their educational journey at the university.

The occasion also saw the attendance of deans, registrar, bursar, librarian, professors, heads of departments, senior lecturers, lecturers, administrative staff, engineers, trade union leaders, non - academic staff, and esteemed guests.

In an unprecedented move, the university opened its doors to the public for the first time in its history in the afternoon, inviting all to witness and partake in this momentous celebration.
