A ceremony to mark the commemoration day jointly organized by the Muslim Majlis and Students Support Service and Welfare Unit of SEUSL was held under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor Prof. MMM. Najim and was graced the events by Registrar H.Abdul Saththar, Deputy Registrar Munsoor A. Cader, Bursar ALM. Nazeer, Deans and Heads of all the Faculties, Director Student Support Services and Welfare Unit and other Members of the Staff.
The memorial address was delivered by Deputy Registrar Munsoor A Cader wherein he stated the yeoman services of the Late Great leader MHM Ashraff and continued that he has rendered his services not only to Muslim community and other communities as well. Describing the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka as the brain child of him, Munsoor A Cader said that Late Minister Ashraff has established this University to uplift the enlightenment of the Education hub of the people of South Eastern region. He played an eminent role at times of crisis of Muslims and overcame the situation. Remembering such a capable and efficient leader like Ashraff is very much appropriate and this should be an annual feature, he said.
The recital of "Thuwa" in memory of late leader of SLMC MHM Asharff was delivered by Moulavi AB Ramzeen.
The highlights of the programme was a large number of students and Staff including non academic Staff of the University from all three communities willingly coming forward to donate their blood in an enthusiastic manner. Dr. Suha Cooray of Base Hospital, Akkaraipattu and Dr. GAL Kalani of Base Hospital, Pottuvil played a major role in the Blood Donation.
