South Eastern University Community accorded a warm reception to the students of the Eastern University who carried Sri Lanka University Games Torch (SLUGT) when it arrived at the University premises at Oluvil on Saturday in the presence of a large gathering of University Academics, Staff, students and other personnel of the University.

In view of the Sri Lanka University Games - SLUG 2016 scheduled to be held from 1st September on 13th September at the Wayamba University, the Organizing Committee has arranged Sri Lanka University Torch (SLUGT) be carried by students representing all fourteen Universities starting from the University of Jaffna to Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Kuliyapitiya from 26th August to 1st September, 2016.

Accordingly, carrying the SLUG Torch by the students of Jaffna University commenced from Jaffna University and handed over it to the Vavuniya Campus students, followed by Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and Eastern University students. South Eastern University community accorded a warm reception to the students when the Eastern University Students carrying the SLUG Torch arrived at the Oluvil University premises.

At South Eastern University, the students ULM Saroos and MB Herath received the SLUG Torch from the Eastern University students and handed it over to Acting Registrar MI Nawfer who in turn offered it to the Vice Chancellor Prof. MMM Najim.

Acting Director Physical Education Department IM Kathafy after receiving this Torch from the Vice Chancellor Prof Najim handed over it to the Students of Uva Wellessa University of Sri Lanka. Thereafter the SLUG Torch would be carried by students of Sabragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, University of Ruhuna, University of Sri Jayawardenapura, University of Visual & Performing Arts, University of Colombo, University of Kelaniya, University of Peradeniya and wind up at Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, Makandura where the Sri Lanka University Games are to be ceremonially commenced on 1st of September with the participation of the President Maithiripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe as Chief Guest and Guest of honour respectively. The Games will go on till the 13th September and on the final day Minister of Higher Education and Highway Lakshman Kiriella will participate as Chief Guest and will give away the awards and certificates to the winners.
