A programme organized by the South Eastern University community to mark the "International Coastal Clean-up Day" was held at Oluvil Beach under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof.MMM Najim.

A large number of Academic and non academic Staff including Registrar H.Abdul Saththar, Deputy Registrar Munsoor A Cader, Deans of all Faculties, Senior Asst. Registrars, Asst Registrars and Heads of Departments were present to engage themselves in the clean up works at Oluvil Beach just behind the Oluvil Campus which has hitherto been not cleaned or maintained for years. All those engaged in this task wore hand gloves supplied by the Coast Conservation & Coastal Resource Management Department and worked in groups and carried out their tasks in different ways.

All kinds of wastes, rotten items, used bottles, plastic bottles, coconut wastes, and other debris which made the environmental polluted in the areas were cleaned by the participants and collected wastes were categorized in groups and dumped in the respective sites.

Ampara Government Agent Thusitha Wanigasinghe accompanied by the Addalaichenai Divisional Secretary IM Haniffa visited the site and saw for himself over the volume of works carried out by the University Staff and was highly pleased for the good works done by them and also promised them that he would assist them in times to come to make the environmental clean.
