Information technology or shortly referred as IT is a field of wide applicability in all areas of science, arts and culture. With the fast changing trend of science, arts and culture towards globalization where information in the global perspective are collected, processed, accessed and utilized for building a global infrastructure, information technology is becoming an unavoidable tool for all members of the global community from household management to global resource management.

With the rapid evolution of personal computers and the fast development of information sharing in the global sense through internet, IT has gained the place of a household item in the modern society.

Hence, it becomes by default inevitable to include IT as part of the literacy measurement component in the human resources development.

The faculty of Arts and Culture of the Southeastern university of Sri Lanka has included IT courses to students in the arts stream since the beginning of the university. This will make the students to meet the new challenges they might face in the IT revolution with confidence.
