South Eastern University of Sri Lanka signed Technology Transfer License Agreement with Organic Bio Natural Agro Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
On 26 January 2023, the University Business Linkage (Technology Transfer Office) of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka significantly aligned the University research outcome with industry requirements by commercializing a product. The product was developed at the Faculty of Technology, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, and was licensed to Organic Bio Natural Agro Lanka (Pvt) Ltd by signing a Technology Transfer License Agreement. The product is an organic repellent gel developed using novel technology to repel the Red Palm Weevils, which are the disastrous pests attacking the Palm trees (i.e., coconut, date, palm oil trees) in many countries.
The event was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) A. Rameez, Vice-Chancellor of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. During the event, the Vice-Chancellor stated that it is a privilege of the University to enter into a license agreement with the commercial partner that provides a marketplace for the in-house research outcomes. Further, the Vice-Chancellor remarked that the University research outcomes are expected to promote regional economic development through transferring state-of-the-art technologies developed at the University.
The following speech of the Managing Director of Organic Bio Natural Agro Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Mr. SMHA. Hasan congratulated the University for the collaboration and for creating immense opportunities focused on the growth of SMEs in the region. Further, he continued that the product would be immediately available to the marketplace to satisfy the farmers’ requirements. In his statement, the company looks forward to collaborating on further research collaboration and product developments. The Vice-Chancellor also underlined that the partnership would facilitate joint research, which is currently highly important to Sri Lanka.
