ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT
The academic environment of the FAS consists of physical and human resources with several departments, laboratory facilities and other academic infrastructure. It has 5 departments:

POSTGRADUTE UNIT(PGUFAS)
The Postgraduate Unit of FAS, SEUSL is one of the key Functional Units of FAS, which reviews and regulate matters relating to postgraduate study programs. It deals with selection of candidates, admission and progress monitoring of the registered students.
SCIENCE EDUCATION CENTRE (SECFAS)
Science Education Centre, FAS (SECFAS) links the faculty and education community, and provides the best institutional opportunity to actualizing and maintaining productive connections between community and the university by engaging students, faculty, and staff across the university, state, with their disciplines and professions.
CENTRE FOR SOIL AND WATER RESERACH (CSWR)
This is the first centre established at FAS in 2004 with external supports (NGOs) by Mr. MF Nawas and Mr. EMJM Rizvi, and located at the Department of Chemical Sciences. Soon after Tsunami, the CSWR was actively involved in community services, analysisng affected water wells, providing services to INGS, who had engaged in humanitarian services.
INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL (IQAC)
The IQAC of the faculty is coming under the perview of Quality Assurance Council (QAC) of the university. The major fuction of the IQAC is to contribute to the quality enhancement of the academic programmes of the faculty. It also contributes to the Institutional reviews and Program reviews, done by UGC.
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING CELL (ITC)
Industrial Training Cell (ITC) of the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) was established in 2018, with prime objective of producing science graduates who are skilled in variety of industrial activities specified by the Sri Lankan industries by exposing them to the actual working environments.
