Focusing on Education Stressed by VC Prof. MMM Najim
Addressing the students at the Orientation program of the Faculty of Technology of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka on Monday, the Vice Chancellor Prof. MMM Najim of the University stressed upon the need of focusing on education and said that that it's the bounden duty of every student that he or she should concentrate in their education making use of every facility provided by the Government. If not so, they are just wasting their time and energy. He added that Government has been allocating a colossal sums of money for Education especially to those who are engaged in higher education. So, we must realize these facts and determine to focus on education and should become useful academic to Sri Lanka.
Technology Faculty new students numbering to 150 viz: 81 in Bio System Technology (BST) and 69 in Information Communication Technology (ICT) who get themselves registered at this University participated in their Orientation program at the Auditorium of the Technology Faculty presided over by the Dean of the Faculty Dr. MG Mohamed Thariq.
Addressing further, Prof. Najim said he was happy to receive the new students from various parts of Sri Lanka at this South Eastern University of Sri Lanka which is located in a very good environment. He said our University is surrounded by sea, river, and coconut estates and give you all a very peaceful environment. Apart from this a very good play ground with all facilities and a well-equipped library are also established here for those who come here for their higher education. He also added that this is the only University which provides all four years students' accommodation facilities. More over various infra structures are underway for Technology Faculty at a cost of Rs.400 million and expected to be completed by July this year. He announced here that this facility would be made use of it by you all.
Hence, he appealed to the new students to make the maximum benefit out of this facilities rather than involving in unwanted pursuits. Advising the students further he added that one may have different objectives to enter this University but their prime objective should be focusing on education. He said that the thirteen years of educations at the schools in their home town would be a fulfilled one only if they complete their four years higher education at the University. They must also keep it mind that all these facilities are being provided to them entirely free by the Ministry of Higher Education and if they are to fulfill these Educational requirements outside, they have to spend millions of rupees. Hence, he wanted the students once again to determine themselves to become good educationalist in the field of technology whom Sri Lanka in need of them.
Dean Dr. Thariq in his inaugural address outlined the curricular programs of the Faculty. Registrar H. Abdul Saththar, Head - Bio System Technology Dr. BGN Sewwandi, Head - Information Communication Technology SLA Haleem , Senior Asst. Registrars, Asst. Registrars and Heads of various departments too were present.
