In a significant move aimed at bridging academia and industry, South Eastern University and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration in education, research, and professional development.
The signing ceremony occurred at the Board Room, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, on 8/16/2024, marking a new chapter in the university’s commitment to providing students with practical insights and opportunities in the financial sector.
The MoU was signed by Dr. U.L. Abdul Majeed, Acting Vice-Chancellor of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, and Mr. Niroshan Wijesundere, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Colombo Stock Exchange, Sri Lanka, in the presence of senior officials from CSE, registrar, Deans of the faculties, heads of the departments, and faculty members from both institutions.
The dean of the Faculty of Management and Commerce, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Prof.Dr. AMM.Mustafa, highlighted the strategic road map with this MoU for both institutions.
In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of South Eastern University, Dr. U.L. Abdul Majeed, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in enhancing the university’s academic offerings. “This partnership with the Colombo Stock Exchange will allow our students to gain firsthand experience and knowledge of the capital markets, preparing them to be future leaders in the finance sector,” he said.
Echoing these sentiments, the Senior Vice President, Marketing, of the Colombo Stock Exchange, Mr. Niroshan Wijesundere, highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership. “This MoU is a step forward in our ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with academic institutions and contribute to the development of future talent in the finance industry,” he noted.
During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between South Eastern University Sri Lanka and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), a focused discussion was held on the future initiatives and collaborative efforts that will stem from this partnership, facilitated by MSA Riyad Rooly, the director, Office of the international affairs of South Eastern University Sri Lanka. Key representatives from both institutions discussed and agreed on several strategic initiatives, including Joint Research Projects, Internships and Training Programs, Guest Lectures and workshops, and Curriculum Development for new academic program aimed at regional development.
Under the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on initiatives such as joint research projects, internships, guest lectures, and training programs. These efforts are designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the financial markets and the skills needed to thrive in a competitive environment.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by M.Farwis, coordinator of CSE for SEUSL who expressed appreciation to all those involved in making the MoU a reality.
This MoU is expected to pave the way for further collaborative efforts between South Eastern University and the Colombo Stock Exchange, contributing to the academic and professional growth of students while also supporting the broader goals of the financial sector in Sri Lanka.
