Welcome to the Department of Information Technology
Background
Creating a graduate who is readily employed and contributes to the development is the hope and dream of every stakeholder of the Sri Lankan higher education. Enhancing the employability becomes very important for fields of specialization with low employability. Identifying the gaps between the graduate profile and the expectations of the employers will help solving this problem. However, the input quality, the teaching learning process and the required resources are also the factors of great importance. At present, the Computer Unit, Department of Social Science, Faculty of Arts and Culture offers two types of IT programmes to the students. Bachelor of Arts Honours (B.A Hons) in Information Communication Technology special degree programme and compulsory IT courses are in six semesters to students who are following general and other special degree programmes. Its main task is to strengthen the knowledge of information technology of the students of the Faculty of Arts and Culture. The curriculum revisions are done in the following ways. First, the Special ICT degree programmes in this document and compulsory IT courses are presented on a separate document.
The Graduate Profile
When the students graduate, they should have gained wide range of knowledge and skills, obtained through their studies and by the additional activities they undertake whilst at the university. Identification of the profile of the graduate produced by a degree programme enables both the teacher and the student to have a clear understanding of the expectations of what need to be achieved.
